Our Kukicha is an organic Japanese green tea that differs from most other teas in that it is made mainly from twigs, rather than just leaves. The word cuckoo means "twig" and cha means 'tea', reflecting the unique composition of tea. At harvest, both young leaves and twigs are picked, but in Kukicha it is the twigs that play a dominant role in the blend, giving the tea a lighter, milder character.
This combination provides Kukicha a flavour profile that is characteristically round, with a light creamy feel and a natural nutty sweetness embraced by a fresh greenness. The flavour is subtle yet full of depth, making the tea both satisfying and easy to drink. Because Kukicha contains a lower proportion of leaves, the caffeine content is also significantly lower than in many other green teas, making it an excellent choice for those who want a milder, decaffeinated experience.
The tea is also rich in theanine, a calming amino acid known for its relaxing and stress-relieving effects. This composition makes Kukicha into a tea that both stimulates the senses with its light greenness and calms the mind with its relaxing properties, making it a perfect drink for both morning and evening.
